Sound of Music - Do Re Mi or Doe a deer…

This familiar phrase is the title of a song from the musical “The Sound of Music” and is a line from the middle of the song, but the first line of the song is “Let’s start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start”. So, what is this beginning about? We have started something new. It is a new adventure. It is a new beginning, and it is under the name, “New Calling Kids”.

We are Lucy Beaton, mother and Sarah Beaton, daughter stepping into a new adventure. I am mother.

New means that! Not second-hand, not used, not pre-owned, not hand-me-down and definitely not repaired or altered. New also does not mean “been-there-done-that”. New is New, obviously. It is new and so to begin something new is an adventure. I have begun new adventures before, but this one is new.

One of my previous adventures was at a time when we would leave family, friends, and everything familiar. We travelled to a country I had never visited before. On arriving and going through customs and immigration I was instructed that I had to throw away some sealed, pre-packaged baby food items that were not allowed to be brought into this island country. These items would need to be sourced locally in the island country. Our arrival time was late at night. We, being my husband, our 13-month-old child and myself.

“Leave behind what must be left behind and walk the new road in the wilderness and drink from the waters of the rivers in the desert.”

It was time to begin a New adventure.

When one steps into the unknown, and can’t take anything you know as your comfort, and you must discard it, cut ties, and can’t hold onto it, one can feel afraid. We were faced with officials upholding this country’s customs rules. There was no way back, and the only way forward was to obey. We obeyed and so started at the very beginning, no family, no friends, nothing familiar and no food for our 13-month-old little girl.

Isaiah 43:18-19 Amplified Bible

18 “Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. 19 “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”

This Scripture tells us to not remember previous and old things and be alert and aware of the new path. Leave behind what must be left behind and walk the new road in the wilderness and drink from the waters of the rivers in the desert.

Jesus ushered in the greatest new, the Kingdom of God and He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life to walk in God’s Kingdom.

New Calling Kids is a new adventure. We are led to start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start! A B C; 1 2 3; not in the middle, Do Re Mi. I am learning the notes so I will be a part of the sound of the music of New Calling Kids!

Life is an adventurous journey, enjoy!
