No Greater Love

The month of February is all about love. We see sales for flowers in different stores for one holiday that falls in the middle of February, and it is all about love. Chocolate is in high demand in February due to Valentine’s Day. We wear red because it is heart month, and we associate red with hearts and love. Valentine’s Day is all about love and having a romance. There is a verse in the Bible from John 15:13 that says:
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (NIV)
Love is not a concreate word. Love is an abstract word. I believe love has four walls. Love guards, gives, believes and corrects. We find this understanding of love in Ephesians 3:18. Ephesians 3:18 says:
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should,
how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. (NIV)
may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the
width and length and depth and height— (NKJV)

When the verse talks about “how wide” it is talking about giving. Because giving can be such an enormous thing to think about, we use width to describe love. In Houston, there is a freeway called I-10. I-10 has 10 lanes on the freeway and another 6 lanes (3 on each side) for the feeder. That’s a wide road. When Jesus died His arms were stretched out and it showed how wide He was willing to lay down His life for us to see His love.
When the verse talks about “how long” it is talking about guarding. Because God’s love is like having an army that will defend or protect you for as long as they need to defend or protect you. An army of soldiers could be a limited number of men in length. But with God there is no limit to the extent of the length of His love for us.
When the verse talks about “how high” it is talking about believes. Because if one had to fly beyond the sky, the height of God’s believing in us and the belief of God in us is beyond our understanding.
When the verse talks about “how deep” it is talking about correction. Because if you had to understand God’s correction it is meant to affect you deeply for change. Hell is a deep place for our eternal souls to live forever in the absence of God. Hell is separation from God and Jesus went deep into Hell to buy you back from the devil. That is how much He loves you.
“But we also know that Jesus lay down his life for each one of us because He loves us.”
My parents told me that love is being able to lay down your life for someone else. I remember in eighth grade a student said to the teacher, “we love you.” The teacher retorted to the student, “you don’t know what love is.” I spoke up and said, “love would mean you would die for our teacher.” The teacher asked the student, “So will you die for me?” The student said, “NO!” You see we know that Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins. But we also know that Jesus lay down his life for each one of us because He loves us.
Meaning His love is so great He showed us that love is to lay down one’s life, by giving His life.
Meaning His love is so great He showed us that love is to lay down one’s life, by guarding us from being eternally separated from Him.
Meaning His love is so great He showed us that love is to lay down one’s life, by His believing in our worth of being saved and being with Him in eternal relationship.
Meaning His love is so great He showed us that love is to lay down one’s life, by setting a correct path for us to have an eternal relationship with God.
Have a nice day… See you soon
