Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

When the wicked queen in the story of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” looked in the mirror she could only see the true reflection. It was herself. The mirror reflected the truth.
Mirrors have a great purpose for all who avail of their use. Is my hair coiffed? Is my make-up applied evenly? Have I got a clean shave? The mirror will present a true reflection.

However there have been mirrors that are made to give a distorted reflection. They are designed to alter the image reflected by them. To alter the true image is deception.
I can remember a time in my childhood that I came in front of a mirror made to give a distorted reflection. The reflection was such that I was disturbed and repelled by the altered image of myself. I have never wanted to look into such a mirror again.
When we read God’s Word, the Bible, it is a true reflection of God’s image. It is the image in which God had originally made mankind. God’s plan for mankind is also clearly set out in His Word and that plan is to fill the earth with His glory in and through mankind. God has also given us everything we need to be purposeful and significant in fulfilling that plan.
“God’s plan is for us to reflect all His glory and goodness to the world around us.”
But mankind messed up and God’s plan to redeem mankind is also contained in His Word. God’s plans for us have never changed, but mankind chose to look in a distorted mirror. The consequence of looking into a distorted mirror will result in being deceived by the appearance by which one is confronted. There is no blessing in deception.
When we read God’s living Word we see Jesus, the living Word in the Living Word. God wants us to see Jesus and His plan of our lives transformed by His image. God’s Word is truth. When we look into the mirror of His Word and His Word reflects the truth in which He wants us to live, He wants us to take it to heart and seek Him to transform our lives.
James 1:23-25 NASB
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
25 But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does.
Jesus is full of glory and the fairest reflection we see in the mirror of God’s Word.
Keep looking to Jesus! Enjoy!
