When you look what do you see? Are your eyes dictating what you can see? Or is your heart being directed to look, and see? Are looking and seeing always the same?
To answer these questions, I will share some personal stories.
In 1991 my late husband, Bruce, and I were going through a sad journey. We had left the bedside of his mother and driving home with questions and yet plans in our hearts. There was a song that started to play in the car. It was from:
Psalm 119:105 KJV
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
This was a clear word to us to keep looking to the Lord for guidance and direction. It also became a life verse for us in our journey. The Bible, the word of God was telling us to look to the Lord and not what we see in the situations and circumstances in the world around us. The word would be guidance for each step we take on a daily basis and the path was the destiny of eternity that God has put in our hearts.

“His word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
As God took us on a journey of living in New Zealand, and then India the path had different seasons. As we looked at God’s word we walked through times of trials and tests and Joy but God kept us on His path. When we looked at His word our daily steps or choices and decisions were guided by the Lord. Yes, in the trials and tests and Joy. In New Zealand we learned the walk of faith. In India we walked the walk of faith and were tested many times. One such time was when an attack came on our three-year-old son who told me he was struggling to breathe. In my thoughts I kept thinking “oxygen tube”, which would mean a hospital. In practical terms at the end of the day, ‘hospital’ was three hours away. I prayed, called the young lady, an ICU nurse who was staying with us at the time, and said “I have prayed and now it is time to praise the Lord.” When Bruce called to say he was on his way home from work I asked him to pray for our son, but I gave no details. After a time of us praising the Lord together our son fell asleep and was breathing normally according to the assessment of the ICU nurse staying with us. Bruce later told me he prayed, and God gave him peace that all was well. God hears, He answers, He heals. Our place was to look to His word and trust Him.
“His word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
During times of seeking God in different aspects of the journey and asking questions, Bruce would say “we are so far out on the water, we can’t go back.” In other words, the only way to go was to keep looking to God and be patient and the answer would be made known.
God’s journey for us brought us to the United States of America. And many more tests and trials and Joy.
And today in my talking with the Lord, and then listening, and looking into His word, He gave me more answers. For this world of trials and tests and Joy. I can only look to Him!
“His word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Keep looking. He is the Answer!
