Don’t Throw in the Towel

As a kid I heard all the time “Winners are not those who never fail but those who never quit”. I know the quote like the back of my hand because it was a quote that my parents would say all the time after they learned it from Edwin Lewis Cole.
Whenever I want to quit something, I always wonder, why am I quitting? If I quit, what will others think? What would my parents think? Last, I think what would God think of me? It’s funny how I know that God won’t feel I am letting Him down if I stop doing something.

What is crazy is that we sometimes seek man’s approval more than God’s. Because we are human, we sometimes allow our “earthly” emotions to get in the way. However, we fail to remember that we are not just flesh, but that we are a Spirit.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16 (NIV)
We sometimes live too much in the world. I am 100% guilty of this. When we go through hard times as we desire to fulfill a dream we sometimes feel like quitting, because we don’t see God in it.
So many times, we throw in the towel too soon. We quit or give up because we don’t see the results soon enough. Most things take time. Imagine if a farmer didn’t see the crop after 12 weeks and decides to give up farming? What if he was the ONLY farmer for a town? That town would go hungry.
But what happens when we throw in the towel and don’t want to continue? Do we even know what scripture says about giving up? Now I am not saying that we shouldn’t walk away from things. But we must know why, and we must go to God’s Word. In Galatians 6:9 it says:
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (NIV)
“I once heard a pastor say that Jesus was in the will of God and He had all kinds of trails, He just didn’t let it stop Him.”
We must remember that we are to walk out the will of God for our lives and the purpose He has given in our lives. I once heard a pastor say that Jesus was in the will of God and He had all kinds of trails, He just didn’t let it stop Him.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesian 6:12 (ESV)
I remember writing a letter when I went to Tech. In the letter I wrote, I think we give up because we don’t want to fail. I grappled with the idea that dreams and hearts desires change. I can say they can change because what I was expecting is not what God is expecting. He will always have the best plan for one’s life.
Am I walking the path that He is wanting for my life? Do I trust Him? I know that I have failed in hearing the Lord. I have also failed in the way that I communicate to God. While I may still be grappling through this, I have learned to get down on my knees and cry out to the Lord. So, I encourage you to get down on your knees and cry out to the Lord.
Have a nice day… See you soon
